Increase Traffic Volume

In order for a volume of traffic to be attracted by any website, it is first important to understand how this traffic is generated. As a webmaster, it is important to generate a stable traffic along side with incidental traffic. If a website is a retail store, it is advantageous to have faithful customers aside from those that come in from the street or walk-in customers. Majority of Internet traffic is based on the services provided by search engines. These online services are responsible for creating approximately 70% of regular traffic to any website that is subscribed thereby creating optimized presence on the Internet. So now that we know that majority of traffic comes from search engines, it is only logical that the website be subscribed to all search engine services to maximize its potentials.

Making Your Mark in Google

Since Google undoubtedly remains as one of the more popular service on the Internet, it is important for every webmaster to make sure that their websites are properly found, indexed, and ranked. Google pays close attention to Design and Content, Technical, and Quality aspects of the website when being submitted to Add URL address.

An important point to remember is to adhere to the guidelines to avoid being penalized and permanently removed from the Google service listing. In terms of Design and Content, it is imperative that the links and hierarchy are clearly defined. As much as possible, a site map should be offered to the user not only to serve as a guide but also to highlight the important portions of the website.

With the Technical details, it is recommended that Lynx or any similar text browser should be used in examining the website. This will also ensure that search engines will not have any difficulty in “crawling” your website. The search bots should also have clear access to the site without having to contend with arguments or session IDs and the likes. To simplify the process make use of the file robots.txt to define the specific portions of the sites that can be accessed freely.

The Quality guidelines set forth by the Google service mainly reminds webmasters to refrain from engaging in manipulative, deceptive, and other misleading or illegal practices.

The Basics of Googling

To the ordinary computer user, the process of doing Internet searches via the Google service may seem too simple and easy. However, there are various background operations which make it possible to retrieve the best results that will match the user’s query.

The first process is called Crawling which simply means that the Internet is scanned for updated as well as new web pages that are appended into the index with the use of a Googlebot. The Googlebot’s execution is governed by a set of algorithmic processes that will dictate the frequency of crawling and from what sources.

The second process is called Indexing which means that the crawled page is compiled into a database based on every word contained in the page while keeping track of its position within it. This helps the Google service to process information contained in websites.

The last process is called Serving which is the delivery of the results to the user. This procedure browses the index for potential matches to the query based on relevancy that is determined using more than 200 factor categories like PageRank of the selected page. By combining all these processes together, the search for information of the end user among more than a billion web pages is simplified.

Improving Traffic Flow

The goal of every website is to generate as much relevant traffic as possible to make it a functional reference or tool. The process by which the improvement of traffic is achieved is commonly referred to as Search Engine Optimization or SEO. This process may be done either in an algorithmic or natural method. Some of the most commonly used tactics to increase traffic volume is by Ezines, embedding of links in browser navigation bar, and the use of multiple domains. In some instances, exchanges of articles, links, and advertising ads is also practiced to generate additional Internet traffic. For huge websites, the use of site maps is helpful to make sure that the user can navigate to the correct page.  In general though, traffic will flow naturally if the contents appeal to a greater population of Internet users which in turn will facilitate the entry of more advertisers.

Search Engine Fine Tuning

Search engines are tools that assist Internet users in looking for possible references or answers to particular subjects based on a user defined keyword. In order to maximize the potentials of search engines, they must be optimized. One of the most common ways of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is to use tags for keywords in every page. The use of tags however must be limited to a maximum of two per page to make them functional. Deep linking is another effective way to implement SEO. This is done by ensuring that multiple pages are linked to the source to establish that the contents are worthwhile and relevant to the searcher. If possible, try to put up an address in a foreign country were websites actually cater to the needs of companies operating in their territory.
